چکیده

The invasive stink bug Halyomorpha halys, native to East Asia, is a severe agricultural pest of worldwide importance, and chemical insecticides are largely sprayed for its control. Negative impact failures management led consider classical biological control as one the most promising methods in long-term perspective. Asian egg parasitoid Trissolcus japonicus main candidate biocontrol agent H. but more recently second species, mitsukurii, which shares area origin with has drawn special attention after adventive populations were found Europe. Despite recent detection, intentional release or redistribution bound approval national petitions, requires detailed risk analyses. With aim providing contribution future development assessment purposes, here we present first study on physiological (fundamental) host range T. mitsukurii Tests conducted different hemipterans common Southern Europe, using three experimental designs, revealed oligophagous range, limited Pentatomoidea comparable displayed by under similar laboratory conditions. In addition coevolved successfully parasitized majority tested pentatomid species scutellerid, although highly variable emergence rates. Notably high parasitization rates detected Acrosternum heegeri Dolycoris baccarum. Host sizes positively affected size female load. Although might be halys further studies (e.g., ecology, field parasitism) needed non-target risks.

BIOLOGICAL CONTROL–WEEDS Biology and Host Range of Digitivalva delaireae (Lepidoptera: Glyphipterigidae), a Candidate Agent for Biological Control of Cape-ivy (Delairea odorata) in California and Oregon

Cape-ivy (Delairea odorata Lemaire) is an ornamental vine native to South Africa that has escaped into natural areas in coastal California and Oregon, displacing native vegetation. Surveys in South Africa led to the discovery of the leafand stem-mining moth Digitivalva delaireae Gaedike and Kruger (Lepidoptera: Glyphipterigidae: Acrolepiinae) as one of several common and damaging native herbivo...

Maintenance of a narrow host range by Oxyops vitiosa; a biological control agent of Melaleuca quinquenervia

Host range expansion in insect herbivores is often thought to be mediated by several factors, principal among them are secondary plant metabolites. In weed biological control, the host range of a prospective agent is one of the most important considerations in its implementation. Extensive host testing tests seek to determine the behavioral acceptance and nutritional value of different test pla...

Fundamental Host Range of Leptoypha hospita (Hemiptera: Tingidae), a Potential Biological Control Agent of Chinese Privet.

Chinese privet, Ligustrum sinense Lour., is an invasive shrub within riparian areas of the southeastern United States. Biological control is considered the most suitable management option for Chinese privet. The potential host range of the lace bug, Leptoypha hospita Drake et Poor, was evaluated on the basis of adult feeding and oviposition, combined oviposition-nymphal development no-choice te...

Host Plant Use by the Invasive Halyomorpha halys (Stål) on Woody Ornamental Trees and Shrubs

The brown marmorated stink bug, Halyomorpha halys (Stål) (Hemiptera: Pentatomidae) is an invasive plant-feeding insect native to eastern Asia. This herbivore is highly polyphagous, feeding on and damaging diverse plants, including field crops, vegetables, tree fruits, and ornamentals. Woody ornamental plants provide early- and late-season resources for adults emerging from and returning to over...
